The Sunday Sweater by PetiteKnit

My very first finished sweater! When I first started knitting (a month ago). I started making beanies so I could practice the knit and purl stitches while also creating something useful. Since I don’t need 5 beanies, my family will have warm heads this winter. For these beanies I used the Manhattan Hat Bulky pattern by Tori Yu. It is a great pattern with clear instructions and a perfect small project. I hesitate to call this my first project because most of these were very rushed and the yarn I used was my practice yarn. My goal is to make a manhattan hat with the right yarn later this year.

Once I felt like I practiced the stitches enough, it was time for something more serious. I was super excited to plan my first ‘real’ project from start to finish. I landed on the PetiteKnit ravelry page, as many knitters do, and chose the sunday sweater as my project. It was the perfect first sweater project for me with enough new things to learn while also keeping the stitches familiar. My approach was to take things step by step. I googled every step I didn’t fully understand and used the tutorial videos available on the PetiteKnit website. I’m super proud of the end result!

For the sweater I used Hjertegarn Natur Uld yarn in the color Beige. It is a 100% wool bulky yarn and it was great to work with. I think choosing a bulky project as my first was smart because I could see the project progress faster. I used my knitpro metal circular needles in the 6 mm and 4.5 mm sizes. The 4.5 mm needles were used for the ribbing. I made the body of the sweater a bit shorter because I mostly wear high waisted pants.

The pattern was very easy to follow and it helped that a lot of reviews and pictures were available on ravelry.

You can see my knitting progress throughout the sweater. In the yolk in particular, the first knit increases look like holes. I eventually figured the increases out, but I left the holes because I like how it looks and what they represent.

Also during this project I found out I love making stockinette in the round. It was super relaxing for me. I’ve already planned out future projects and have started on a vest already. It’s giving me so much joy and motivation. <3
